I am going to blog about this because I am so angry about it. I am hoping this can get it all out there and I will feel better but I doubt it.
My city is cutting $6-7 million in funding for our public schools. Yet they still have money to have City Hall remodeled. They still have money for a new concourse. They still have money all this extra stuff yet they are cutting education for our children. The cuts they have in mind are not minor things either. We are talking over 200 teachers, many of them wonderful, being laid off. We are talking about cutting the literacy programs and closing the libraries. We are talking about cutting foreign language in middle school and seriously ruining it on the High School level. We are talking about class sizes that are ridiculous.
Since when is educating kids not a priority over a prettier City Hall??? Why did the Mayor and the School Superintendent look bored at the public hearing? Maybe because neither has kids in our school system and they both make over $100,000 a year...?? I am outraged that they seem to be bored about my child's future. If they are not interested in the education of our city's youth then maybe they should find employment elsewhere. I find myself disappointed with my elected officials and anxiously awaiting election time. There were a couple members of the school committee that seemed to be as emotional as us parents were and I am grateful for that and will show them how much when I vote again.

I would be very pissed as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat school does Alana go to, if you don't mind me asking? What about sending her to a Private school like Sacred Heart?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheena :)
ReplyDeleteAna, She goes to Squantum. I wish I could send her to private but its just so expensive, $4500 a year and we plan on moving in a couple years so that would mean changing schools now and then again in a couple years.
